Position Summary
As a Senior Database Engineer, you will serve as the technical architect and primary liaison for secure application data solutions. You will be responsible for the end-to-end development, implementation, and security hardening of SQL Server environments, specifically focusing on cross-domain solutions and insider threat mitigation for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).
Responsibilities
1. Systems Engineering & Development
- Cross-Domain Integration: Coordinate with Infrastructure teams to engineer and implement cross-domain solutions for replicating SQL Server data across non-secure and secure networks.
- Custom Module Development: Design and deploy an Insider Threat Module and develop tracking modules for the Agency’s Information Assurance (IA) workforce.
- Full Lifecycle Management: Translate customer requirements into technical development plans; design database physical structures, functional capabilities, and recovery specifications.
- Data Integrity: Conduct daily automated comparisons between database data and Active Directory records to ensure synchronization and security.
2. Security, Compliance & Liaison
- STIG Hardening: Verify and maintain SQL Server STIG settings to ensure compliance for annual ST&E security reviews and insider threat audits.
- Inter-Agency Liaison: Act as the primary technical point of contact between Insider Threat and Personnel Security, and the system administrators regarding Active Directory account management and disabling protocols.
- Reporting: Ensure all system developments meet FISMA and Insider Threat reporting requirements.
3. Database Administration & Optimization
- Performance Tuning: Maintain peak database performance by calculating optimum parameters, implementing new releases, and evaluating hardware/OS interactions.
- Maintenance & Utilities: Support database functions by designing and coding custom utilities, managing backups, and solving complex architectural requirements.
- User Support: Prepare and train end-users, resolve technical tickets, and provide expert-level consultation on database capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 10 - 15 years of professional experience in database engineering or administration.
- Security Clearance: Active Top Secret / SCI (TS/SCI) is mandatory.
- Certifications: * DoD 8570 IAT Level II or III compliant certification (e.g., Security+, CASP+, or CISSP).
- SQL Server and ASP.NET certifications (Strongly Preferred).
- Technical Skills: Deep expertise in SQL Server replication, STIG application, and cross-domain data movement.
Professional Standards
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuous education, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.
- Enforce organizational standards to ensure high-quality service and team-oriented results.
Active Top Secret (TS) with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance.
Must work onsite 100% of the time at Fort Belvoir in Alexandria Va. 22060.
Starting salary range between $140,000.00 - $149,900.00 annually.
